Es gibt noch eine ganze Reihe von Berichten, die aber zum größten Teil erst nach längerer Zeit über diese Schlachten berichten. Auch andere Historiker der Antike beschäftigten sich mit diesen Schlachten: Es sind Appian, Silius Italicus und Plutarch zu nennen. Ihre Berichte haben in der Forschung allerdings kaum Beachtung gefunden. Dies führt guy darauf zurück, dass sich ihre Schlachtberichte nicht mit denen von Polybios und Livius decken. U. Kahrstedt weist in ihrem Buch auf diese Problematik hin: „Appians Schlachtbericht sei reinste Analistik, da er sich in keinem Punkt mit dem von Polybios decke und Plutarch folge lediglich Livius.“ Aber guy sollte trotz all dieser positiven Aspekte, die die Berichte von Polybios und Livius haben, eines nicht außer Acht lassen, dass auch sie keine Zeitzeugen waren, sondern auch sie von ihren Quellen abhängig waren.
